The singles victory was that of Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que., who defeated Vera Dushevina of Russia 6-2, 7-5. Toronto's Daniel Nestor, the top seed in the men's doubles event with partner Max Mirnyi, posted a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, 6-1 first-round victory over Americans Michael Russell and Donald budget tours of australia and new zealand Young.
"He served extremely well. I knew he was a big sever, but even though I never played him before, I was surprised at how well he served," Pospisil said. "Once the point was started, I felt I was there — maybe a couple budget tours of australia and new zealand of mental mistakes, bad decisions at certain budget tours of australia and new zealand important points cost me.
"It wasn't like I drastically changed my tennis from 4-2 up, and into the third. I think she missed a lot less; she played a lot better," Dubois said. "Maybe a few points I could have done more — maybe more first serves at 4-2, go get that game to make it 5-2."
Wozniak watched a few games of Tuesday's match. She was impressed with the way Dubois moved Zheng around, just thought there just were a few short balls she might have taken care of more emphatically.
"I know her game well. You really have to make her move because she doesn't like it when you make her move, and attack," Wozniak said of Zheng. "I have to stay with her inside the court, not start being late on the ball, continue to play my game the whole way. And when it's a short ball, finish it. Because this is grass, budget tours of australia and new zealand it's like squash, it goes quickly. You can't just get it back like you can on clay."
Because although Dubois and Pospisil suffered defeat on court, they also received some great news Tuesday as the International budget tours of australia and new zealand Tennis Federation finalized its wild-card picks for the upcoming Olympic tennis event.
Pospisil, who already was playing doubles with Daniel Nestor, received a spot in the singles draw while Dubois, who was not originally qualified, was awarded a spot in the women's doubles with Wozniak.
budget tours of australia and new zealand "To be honest, I was shocked. I didn't even think that was a possibility," Pospisil said. "I obviously have high hopes for the doubles especially; I feel like I'm taking it really seriously and I'm already dialing it up."
He'll take a week off in Montreal, then start training again for the grass-court event in Newport, R.I., (where he hopes to play doubles with Lukas Lacko of Slovakia), then the Granby Challenger on hard court, then back over to London — and Wimbledon — for the Olympic event.
Dubois, too, will be happy to get a bit of a break from playing budget tours of australia and new zealand matches every week. And since she has now committed to new coach Bruno Echagaray for the rest of the season, she's looking forward to two or three weeks of solid training.
Since the two began working together budget tours of australia and new zealand in Strasbourg, just before the French Open, there hasn't been the opportunity. "I haven't done that for awhile. I've played a lot of tournaments lately," Dubois said. "Then, fill up the tank again for the next events."
