"It's a community with unique characteristics and there's already a 50-bed (addictions) treatment centre opening in the community this (week). I think the question is, how much do you put in a very small community before you change the nature celebrity cruise alaska of the community itself?"
Drop-In administrators say they want to work with the community on the proposed project, which will see 20 single units rented for about $600 per month, including room and board. Meals would be brought from the downtown drop-in centre initially, then eventually made on site.
"There was no intent to deceive the community. We are planning consultations and have been busy this week going to businesses and engaging community associations. . . . We are trying to do our due diligence," executive director Debbie Newman said.
