The first community meeting for the Gold Line's twelfth third extension, east into Montclair , took place Thursday to provide updates on the project and its recently-released environmental impact report, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports (the Gold Line is being built out to Azusa right now). While currently unfunded, Metro already owns the right of way for the $810 million project and San Gabriel Valley officials and locals are on board (though a paltry 10 people showed up to the Gold Line meeting, the crowd seemed more genial than the screaming Beverly Hills hordes who attend Purple Line subway extension meetings). The extension's EIR showed that at least five large parking garages will need to be built for the line--in Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, Pomona and Claremont--since la tour eiffel from beneath the extension is more of a suburban commuter line than inner-city rapid transit like the Red Line.
