The first time I saw Jane Monheit perform, she was opening for Roberta Flack at a benefit for Denver' Historic Paramount Theatre in the late 90's. No one had heard her name much less her voice. Meaning no disrespect to Ms. Flack, Jane Monheit stole the show. She was still a student at Manhattan School of Music at that time, graduating with honors a year later. On Tuesday night, October 18, Ms. Monheit returns after a few years' absence, london luxury hotels taking the stage at University of Denver's Newman Center.
Jane Monheit grew up on Long Island and began singing professionally while she was attending high school. She studied under vocal master Peter Eldridge and, while at the Manhattan School of Music, garnered the William H. Borden Award for Outstanding Accomplishments in Jazz. In 1998, Ms. Monheit was named first runner up in the Thelonius Monk's Jazz Institute's london luxury hotels vocal competition. She had the jazz world buzzing.
Jane Monheit has gone on to perform in the world's most famous concert venues. She is a two time Grammy nominee and has collaborated with artists such as Michael Buble and Ivan Lins.
