Four holes later, where Mickelson's ball was in such heavy rough left of the fairway he was concerned about injuring himself, he hit out sideways only to watch his ball run through the fairway and into more rough. He made double bogey.
On No. 8, it took a small search part to find Mickelson's ball after an errant fairway bunker shot that went only a few yards. He again asked for relief believing the ball was embedded but was not granted any. He made bogey.
"If you keep the ball in the fairway, you can make birdies," Mickelson said. "I hit it terribly. I hit it in the rough. And the rough is not very playable. And you ve got to keep it into the fairway, apple vacations for travel agents end of story."

phil just keep you energy going into fridays round and i know that you will make a come back into under par and then moveup the leader board on sat and then on sunday take the championship trophy home to san diego
Hurray for the officials with the nerve to say no to Phil. You don t get free relief just because you hit a shot into deep rough. I lost a lot of respect for Ernie Els a few years ago when he hit a ball into the woods and kept calling official after official until he finally found someone who granted him relief from the trees because the storm the night before had knocked down several branches apple vacations for travel agents and they were piled up in the woods. It took him 3 officials, but he finally found someone who caved into him. When you miss the fairway by 40 yards you are SUPPOSED apple vacations for travel agents to be in a poor lie. Take your penalty like a man. If it costs you the tournament, so be it. If you want perfect lies all the time, make sure you hit the center of every fairway.
I realize Phil s frustration because he spent about 2 or 3 holes digging in the rough to try to find his ball, and those holes spoiled his round, but my gosh, someone needs to tell him to relax a little out there. He seemed to get way too emotional apple vacations for travel agents every time he misses a putt. They aren t all going to go in Relax, Phil! Too flustered. If you are uptight the whole round, you decrease your chance of playing freely and solidly. I know he wants to play well badly, but you still need to be calm out there. Sometimes things won t be clicking on all cylinders, but you just keep plugging and try to stay even-keeled apple vacations for travel agents and focused. Then afterwards, you can try to make adjustments for anything that s off (and the TV showed him practicing afterwards). But I still think he should apple vacations for travel agents calm down a tad.
Phil is so interesting because you feel like he s playing apple vacations for travel agents well enough to shoot a solid score, and then the next thing you know, there s a big commotion and he can t find his ball, and suddenly he s a few over par. You have to think that if he can get a good round going where he s driving the ball relatively straight apple vacations for travel agents (a course like this makes that more necessary than usual), he s going to go low and be very competitive. He just has to avoid those moments apple vacations for travel agents of chaos that sometimes enter his rounds. His true fans all believe in him. Just keep plugging Phil, don t get too down on yourself during the round.
He did have a few birdies, and he knows he can make birdies on this course. Just needs to avoid the big misses because this rough seems especially rough. apple vacations for travel agents Aside from the middle of the round, the rest of it wasn t bad at all. At times his putting wasn t great, but he would have scored fine enough. Nobody s going to be perfect out there.
Phil, I am one of your biggest fans. I am sure you will make a come back tomorrow. Since you are playing in the morning, maybe you will be fortunate enough to have good weather like the primadonna Tiger had today.
Phil s big problem is he only has one swing. Mostly hard and crooked. After all these years you would think he would learn to play the golf course instead of just swinging apple vacations for travel agents away. Like Tiger and Bubba they learned you can t swing from your heels on every shot or every golf course. If he can t hit the fairway he needs to swallow his pride and use an iron to place the ball so he has a second shot. That s the part of golf Phil doesn t understand. He is over rated at this stage in his game
To even think a player with Mickelson s resume is overrated nevermind type it in a forim proves you know nothing about the great game of golf. And Phil Mickelson has 1 more Major than Ernie Els, so going by your logic, Ernie Els is ULTRA OVERRATED .
I am not hating on Phil at all. Love his smile, even when he s frustrated or pi$$ed at his own faulty shots. The point I m trying to make is: don t jack up your Man, while at the same time denigrating another player apple vacations for travel agents CONSTANTLY, retorting 20x a thread, when someone else compliments Tiger.
I did not say anything negative about PM, and honestly wanted to see what the article said, and read the comments. Obviously, it is full of well-wishers. There is no need for me to bash these people for their opinions, the way Sean Smith does notoriously re: Tiger.I was very shocked to see the official apple vacations for travel agents being called upon as much as it was today, though. Stressed out, I guess, and with good reason. I would be.
PS: My fantasy final pairing apple vacations for travel agents on Sunday would be Tiger and Strix, as they are good buds and their good vibes actually compliment each other. If either apple vacations for travel agents of them were to win, I d be blubbering. Can t say that for any other PGAT player in my lifetime. Ciao.
dogcasey Agreed, usually I d respect apple vacations for travel agents other people for their opinions, but it s hard to show any respect to hypocritical opinions like Sean Smith s. Agree that it would be nice to see Tiger and Stricker contending but there are also a dozen of other guys which I d be glad to see them win. Cheers!
Everybody has an off day. The Tour pro s can testify that. I wasn t able to finish watching the round, but I m glad Lefty was able to get those 3 birdies in. Phil being Phil, I expect to see the Phil we know, with him coming apple vacations for travel agents out with a good score to bring him back into a good score.
Day one got away from him on the par 5 7th hole on his second shot. Phil knew much of the field was eating up that hole and all he had to do was get his 2nd shot in the fairway. He put it in the deep rough instead and lost at least 3 shots to the field.
jpcorbeil no your not. They are loose impediments. You only get relief from them if they have been piled for removal . Stiff $hit if there is a broken/dead branch apple vacations for travel agents on the ground that interferes with your lie or swing otherwise.
like he is going to make the shot for you!!!I was told when your on the course its time to play STOP trying to please the crowd before and after each shot on the course!! Your the PRO so start acting apple vacations for travel agents like one!!I have been watching you since you came on tour and when you were playing YOUR game your one of the greatest to play the game!! God Speed!! PS. I like Bones but he is a caddy!! YOUR THE PRO!!
@ Don: I agree that Phil needs to play his game and focus a little more. But I completely disagree about your caddy comments. Your caddy is like an on-field coach almost. They re very knowledgeable in the game and in their Pro s game. They know the Pro as much as they know themselves. It s their JOB to give input. And the more input the better. A caddy isn t just someone to carry your bag for you like the kids at your local club. A staff caddy needs to be able to make reads, know their Pro s capabilities in all situations, know the right club selection, and yes, carry their bag and hold the flagstick
There are quite a few golfers who get to their late 30s and start to drop the baton. They dont seem to realise it until the missed cut number mounts. Maybe we can relate it to male menopause but I think there is a time after 20 years on tour that a golfer needs to give himself a makeover mentally, technically, strategically and physically. After that he can get back out there for another 10 years. Bit like a machine you just cant run it continually without an overhaul eventually. I wonder if this applies to Phil.
You re absolutely right Seff. As you get older your body type changes, you lose flexibility, so on and son. Once you notice that you re not playing like you normally do, it s time to look at changing your clubs, i.e. the flex of your shafts. If that doesn t quit do it, re-evaluate your swing. Your body is changing and chances are, you will need to change your swing to fit the new you
